Frequently asked questions

Does Auvi need an internet connection?

Only for the initial setup, when the app downloads its on-device speech recognition models. After that, Auvi works completely offline. On newer versions of iOS, the required models may already be on your device, so no download is needed at all.

Does Auvi record my conversations?

No. Auvi does not create audio files. Ever. It converts speech to text in real-time. By default, the text itself only exists in memory and is gone the moment you stop transcription or close the app. If you choose to enable Save Transcripts in Settings, only the text is stored locally on your device — no audio.

Does Auvi send any data to the cloud?

No. All processing happens entirely on your device. No audio, text, or any other data is sent to any server, cloud service, or third party. Our App Store privacy label says "No Data Collected" because that is literally true.

What languages does Auvi support?

Auvi can transcribe speech in over 40 languages. With the Translation add-on, it can translate captions in real-time into 31 languages, all on-device. You can select your transcription language in Settings.

How does speaker identification work?

Auvi uses on-device speaker identification to distinguish who is speaking. Each speaker is assigned a colour, so you can see at a glance who said what in a multi-person conversation. Speaker colours appear shortly after the text, as the identification engine processes audio in short chunks.

Can I use Auvi with external microphones?

Yes. Auvi works with any audio input your device supports: the built-in microphone, AirPods, Bluetooth microphones, USB-C microphones, Lightning accessories, or wired headsets.

Can I display captions on a TV or projector?

Yes. Connect via AirPlay or an HDMI adapter to display large-format captions on an external screen. This is useful for meetings, classrooms, events, or anywhere a larger display helps.

Can Auvi transcribe phone calls?

iOS does not allow third-party apps to access phone call audio directly. However, you can use Auvi during calls by putting the call on speakerphone and placing your device nearby, or by using an external microphone. The app includes tips on how to get the best results in this scenario.

What is the difference between Standard and Plus?

Standard is a one-time purchase that gives you full live transcription with speaker identification in 40+ languages. Plus is an optional monthly or annual subscription that adds transcript history, search, export, text copying, and the ability to take screenshots of transcripts.

How do I cancel a subscription?

You can manage or cancel subscriptions at any time in your Apple ID settings. Go to Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions on your device. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund.

Can my company deploy Auvi to managed devices?

Yes. Auvi supports Managed App Configuration (MDM). IT administrators can enforce privacy settings — for example, permanently disabling saving, copying, and exporting — via MDM profiles. Deploy through Apple Business Manager or Volume Purchase Programme at standard pricing.

Does Auvi work on Apple Watch?

Yes. Auvi includes a companion Apple Watch app (watchOS 10+) that streams live captions from your iPhone to your wrist. You can also start and stop captioning from the Watch.

How much storage do the models require?

The initial model download is approximately 700 MB. On newer versions of iOS, the required models may already be present on your device. The app will prompt you before downloading and recommends using Wi-Fi.
