Auvi — Live Transcription & Translation
Last updated: 31 March 2026
What Auvi is
Auvi turns speech into text, in real-time, entirely on your device. No internet required, no cloud.
People use Auvi for all kinds of reasons — following conversations in noisy environments, captioning live events, translating between languages, or as a daily accessibility tool. We built Auvi with inclusion at its core, following accessibility best practices so it works well for everyone regardless of ability. Whether you need captions, translation, or both — Auvi is built for you.
By downloading, installing, or using Auvi ("the App"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
Recording consent — please read this
Important: Auvi is a transcription app, not a recording app. It does not create audio files. No sound recordings are ever saved. When you optionally enable Save Transcripts, only text is stored.
That said, you are solely responsible for making sure everyone in a conversation has consented to transcription before you use this App.
Transcription laws vary by jurisdiction. Some require consent from all parties, including but not limited to:
- United States: California, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Washington
- European Union: Various member states under GDPR and national laws
- Australia, Canada, and many other countries have their own consent requirements
This list is not exhaustive. Laws change, and requirements may vary even within a country or depend on context (personal vs. business use, in-person vs. telephone). Always check the rules that apply where you are.
If you travel to another state, province, or country, you must ensure transcription is permitted there before using Auvi. Consent requirements can differ significantly even between neighbouring jurisdictions, and the rules that apply at home may not apply where you are visiting.
Failure to obtain required consent may violate applicable civil and criminal laws. Creative Machines assumes no liability for use of this App in violation of any recording, wiretapping, eavesdropping, or transcription laws.
Best practice: Always tell everyone present that you are using a transcription app before starting.
You are the Data Controller. Under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR), you are the Data Controller for any transcription data generated on your device. Creative Machines is neither a Data Controller nor a Data Processor — we never access, receive, process, or store any data generated by the App. You bear full legal responsibility for how transcription data is created, stored, and shared.
Default mode context: In its default configuration (no saving, no export), transcribed text exists only in volatile memory and is purged when the session ends — no file or record is created. Some jurisdictions provide exemptions for assistive listening devices and similar tools. However, these exemptions may not extend to all use cases, particularly when transcript saving is enabled. Do not rely on exemptions as a substitute for obtaining consent.
Per-session reminder: The App displays a brief, dismissable reminder at the start of each transcription session encouraging you to inform other participants. When Save Transcripts is enabled, this reminder is more prominent, as a permanent text record is being created.
"I'm Using Auvi" card: The App includes a full-screen card you can show to conversation partners to explain that you are using a transcription app. This is provided as a convenience — showing the card does not constitute legal consent on behalf of other parties, and you remain responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
Data, AI training, and who is responsible for what
No AI training. Creative Machines does not use any audio, transcription text, voice profile, translation, or any other data generated by the App to train, fine-tune, or improve artificial intelligence or machine learning models. We have no mechanism to access such data.
We are a tool provider. Creative Machines provides Auvi as a software tool. We do not access, collect, receive, transmit, or benefit from any data generated by users. The App operates entirely on your device. Think of us as the manufacturer of a pen — not the author of what is written with it.
No audio recordings. Auvi does not create audio files. No sound recordings are ever saved to your device. The optional Save Transcripts feature stores text only.
Ephemeral vs. persistent — you choose:
- Default (ephemeral): Transcribed text lives in volatile memory only. Stop transcription or close the App, and all text is permanently gone. No file, no log, no record.
- Persistent (opt-in): Turn on Save Transcripts in Settings, and text is stored locally on your device. This creates a permanent text record that you are responsible for managing, securing, and (if applicable) deleting. Saved transcripts are never sent to Creative Machines or any third party.
Data subject rights and conversation participants
If you enable Save Transcripts, you are creating a permanent text record that may contain personal data of the people in the conversation. Under applicable data protection laws (including GDPR), you are the Data Controller for this data, and the people whose speech has been transcribed may have rights over it.
In particular, conversation participants may have the right to:
- Know that their speech is being transcribed and stored as text
- Access any transcript data relating to them
- Request deletion of transcript data relating to them
- Object to the processing of their personal data
Your responsibilities:
- Inform conversation participants that you are using Auvi and that their speech will be transcribed. Where required by local law, show them the “I’m Using Auvi” Conversation Privacy Notice card before starting.
- Respond to access, deletion, and other data subject requests in a timely manner. Auvi provides tools to view and delete saved transcripts — use them to fulfil requests.
- If you transcribe conversations in a professional or organisational capacity, you may have additional obligations under GDPR or equivalent legislation, including maintaining records of processing activities.
Creative Machines cannot fulfil data subject requests on your behalf — we have no access to your transcripts.
Accuracy
Transcriptions are generated by on-device AI models and may contain errors, omissions, or inaccuracies. Accuracy varies with background noise, accents, number of speakers, microphone quality, and language.
Do not rely on transcriptions for legal, medical, financial, or safety-critical purposes without independent verification. Auvi is a productivity and accessibility tool, not a substitute for professional transcription services.
Auvi is not a medical device and has not been approved by any regulatory authority including the FDA, MHRA, or equivalent. Do not rely on Auvi transcriptions as the sole record for medical consultations, financial transactions, legal proceedings, emergency communications, or any context where inaccuracy could cause harm. Always verify critical information through independent means.
Safety features and scam detection
Auvi includes optional safety features such as sound awareness, safety keyword alerts, and scam detection (phone and in-person). These features are designed to assist you, but they are not a guarantee of safety.
Scam detection analyses transcribed text on your device to identify conversational patterns that may indicate known scam techniques — including phone scams (e.g., impersonation, tech support fraud) and in-person scams (e.g., overcharging, distraction theft). This analysis happens entirely on your device — no data is sent anywhere. However:
- It may not detect all scams, new scam techniques, or scams conducted in languages other than those supported
- It may occasionally alert on legitimate conversations that happen to use similar language
- It is not a substitute for your own judgement, advice from trusted individuals, or guidance from law enforcement or consumer protection agencies
- It analyses text only — it cannot assess caller identity, phone number legitimacy, or other factors
Creative Machines accepts no liability for losses arising from scams that the App fails to detect, or for actions taken in response to alerts. These features are provided as an additional layer of awareness, not as professional fraud prevention or security advice.
Screenshot and copy protection
By default, Auvi prevents screenshots and screen recordings from capturing transcript content. Live captions will appear blank in any screenshot or screen recording. This protection is only lifted when you have purchased Plus and enabled Allow Copy in Settings.
You acknowledge that once screenshot protection is lifted, you are solely responsible for any transcript content you capture, copy, or share via screenshots, screen recordings, or the clipboard.
External display and lock screen
Auvi can display captions on an external screen (via AirPlay or HDMI) and show the most recent transcript line on your lock screen via Live Activities. You are responsible for ensuring that transcript content displayed on external screens or your lock screen is not visible to individuals who have not consented to being transcribed.
Text-to-Speech
If you enable Translation, Auvi can speak translated text aloud. You are responsible for ensuring that spoken translations are appropriate for your environment and do not infringe the privacy of others present.
Acceptable use
Use the App only for lawful purposes. You must not use it to:
- Transcribe conversations without the consent of all participants where required by law
- Conduct surveillance of any person without their knowledge and consent
- Violate any person's reasonable expectation of privacy
- Engage in any activity that violates applicable laws
Purchases
Auvi offers a free trial, a one-time purchase, and optional auto-renewable subscriptions:
- Standard — one-time purchase that unlocks full transcription functionality after the free trial
- Plus — monthly or annual subscription for transcript history, search, export, text copying, and the ability to take screenshots of transcripts
- Translation — monthly or annual subscription for real-time on-device translation
- Bundle — monthly or annual subscription combining Plus and Translation at a reduced price
Free trial structure: When you first install Auvi, a 7-day free trial provides full access to all features, including Plus and Translation. After the trial ends, live transcription requires a Standard (one-time) purchase. Plus and Translation are independent add-on subscriptions, each with its own separate 3-day free trial that begins when you first subscribe. You can subscribe to either, both, or the discounted Bundle.
Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions at any time in your Apple ID settings. Prices are displayed in the App Store and vary by region. All purchases and subscriptions are processed through the Apple App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy. We do not process payments directly.
Enterprise and MDM deployments
For enterprise deployments using Mobile Device Management (MDM), the organisation deploying Auvi assumes all Data Controller responsibilities for any transcription data generated on managed devices. The deploying organisation is responsible for configuring privacy settings, informing users and conversation participants, and responding to data subject requests. Creative Machines provides no warranty or support for MDM-configured deployments beyond standard consumer terms.
Open-source acknowledgements
Auvi incorporates open-source components. Full licence details and attribution are available in the App under Settings > About > Acknowledgements, as required by the respective licences.
Accessibility
Auvi is designed with accessibility as a core principle and follows Apple’s accessibility best practices. However, Creative Machines does not warrant compliance with any specific accessibility standard, regulation, or certification, including but not limited to EN 301 549, WCAG, or Section 508. If you require certified accessibility compliance for institutional use, please contact us.
Export compliance
Auvi uses only publicly available open-source machine learning models and standard iOS cryptographic libraries. The App contains no encryption technology subject to U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) or International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Users are responsible for complying with local laws regarding speech transcription and recording in their jurisdiction of use.
Disclaimer of Warranties
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

- The App will meet your specific requirements
- Transcriptions will be accurate, complete, or error-free
- The App will operate without interruption or error

- Death or personal injury: Our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence is not limited.
- Gross negligence or wilful misconduct: Our liability for gross negligence or wilful misconduct is limited to reasonably foreseeable damages.
- All other claims: Our total aggregate liability for all other claims shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid to Creative Machines for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) HKD 2,000 (approximately EUR 240, GBP 200, or USD 255 as of March 2026).
IN NO EVENT SHALL CREATIVE MACHINES BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, except where such exclusion is prohibited by applicable law.
Indemnification
You agree to use the App in compliance with applicable laws. To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Creative Machines from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising directly from your breach of these Terms or your violation of applicable recording, transcription, or privacy laws. This indemnification obligation does not apply to consumers resident in the European Union or United Kingdom to the extent that it would be considered an unfair contract term under applicable consumer protection law.
Privacy
Your privacy matters. See our Privacy Policy for full details. The summary: no data is collected, and all processing happens on your device.
Termination
You can stop using Auvi at any time by deleting it. These Terms remain in effect for as long as you use the App.
